A fabulous Georgian gold filigree and cannetille detailed pique butterfly brooch adorned with ruby eyes dating from circa 1830. The wonderful early 19th century brooch has a highly detailed and hand formed gold body a top two round, faceted ruby eyes sit from which masterfully crafted proboscis protrude. The wings formed of a single piece of turquoise shell are further adorned with inlaid gold leaf shaped pieces and centrally set highly ornate gold cannetille work relate from the body of the butterfly. A fabulous piece of antique jewellery history remaining in excellent, wearable condition.
