A stunning antique - this early 19th century silver closed back paste brooch of foliate design dating from circa 1800 is a true rarity. Most likely French in origin, the region where the finest ‘black dot’ paste was masterfully crafted. The rounded, closed back settings and quality of black dot stones are indicative of a highly skilled paste maker of the period. The brooch of articulated foliate design would have been designed and set under candle light and the paste shone brightly by the incandescent light evoking the romanticism and mystic of the period. A very fine example all original and in excellent condition.
