A beautiful late Victorian 18ct gold ruby and diamond ring inlaid with ten precious gemstones arranged into a checkerboard design crafted in England circa 1900. Five gleaming diamonds sit snugly alongside five pinkish red rubies, all set within 18ct yellow gold. The diamonds are all Old Mine cut and are lively and bright, the rubies are similar being Old Mine cut too and well matched. The diamonds total an estimated 0.20 carat weight and the rubies also 0.20 carat weight.
Interestingly the design with a more a geometric, checkerboard layout could be seen as an early transition in a move to the future of the Art Deco era.
The ring would make a great compliment to either a ruby or diamond ring wearer being versatile in its ability to highlight both.
