A fabulous pair of antique Victorian pique (tortoiseshell) gold and silver inlaid earrings that can be dated to the height of their fashion circa 1880. These beautiful antique drop earrings are formed on a central circle carved pique ring suspended from a cabochon drop with a hook fitting. The inlay throughout is delightful with stylised floral motifs, geometric patterns and tendrils in gold and silver.
These antique earrings would have been handmade during the mid-Victorian period (1860-1870) and would of required a highly skilled, specialised craftsman to produce. The production of such earrings had its origins in France and moved to England when the Huguenots escaped in the 17th Century where their craftsmanship spread. Very pretty earrings and a delight to wear - the detailing is seen from all sides and no chips or cracks are present. A rare find!
